Join us for a fun day on our second annual Indiana Dunes hike. Our Dunes hike this time will take us to the new Indiana Dunes National Park, on the Cowles Bog Trail. This will be an educational Field Trip Hike and will feature a short film about the Dunes, a presentation about how glaciers developed the area and how plants grew on the sand dunes, and where the Cowles name came from. We will meet at the Indiana Dunes National Park Visitors Center. Please dress for the weather, bring a backpack with water, snacks and hiking gear; I would suggest you bring trekking poles, ankle high boots, eye protection, and a regular or cellphone camera. We will stop and regroup when needed. Note: if you are looking for a quick out and back hike with no stops, sorry, this hike is not for you. This is not a 100% easy trail; be prepared for the trail difficulty. The pace will be moderate, not slow or fast. There is one big hill going down, and one going up, the rest are mostly regular hills. Terrain is Sandy with hard sand, some hills, wooded area, multi- biodiversity, spectacular Lake Michigan views, we will hike up to the lake shoreline possibly seeing small mammals. We will start at the Visitors Center, and then caravan to the Cowles Bog North Parking lot. This is a new member and guest friendly event. The location is on highway 49, North of the I-94 exit, and South of US-20, on the East side of the road. Do Not go to the Indiana Dunes State Park, we are at the Federal National Park.
