Overall the route is flat, but there are a few small climbs along the way. Being mostly flat, the wind can play a big factor. Even the little hills can take it out of you.
The route basically breaks into these six sections:
- 45: Naperville to Sycamore, mile 0-45
- 37: Sycamore to Oregon. mile 45-82
- 23: Oregon to Dixon, mile 82-105
- 15: Dixon to Aston, mile 105-120
- 37: Ashton to Hinckley, mile 120-157
- 43: Hinckley to Naperville, mile 157-200
The basic ride plan in the past has been to keep the stops short, and (time permitting) have a sit-down email in Dixon.
Note that other than the first and last legs, there is pretty much NOTHING in the way of services between these points.
One consideration for this year is the larger number of riders that may show up - if this comes to pass then stops for services could be a time-suck, riders should be cognizant of this to keep the ride moving.
Time permitting I will look for additional services in Sycamore and Ashton. Riders will need to be efficient at the stops.
As for pacing, I expect riders will form into groups at different paces. I don't want anyone to be left behind, so look for others you think you can hang with.
Stronger / faster riders can spend lots of time at the front. This is not a race. My own goal is to finish before sunset. Plan to bring lights / reflective gear in case you are caught riding after dark.
See the list of riders below. I've collected information from everyone. Note that this is an EBC club ride, non-EBC members will need to sign a waiver at the start of the ride. Don't be late to the ride start and hold everyone up.
