This ride is a little different than the usual "hang on the wheel in front of you" type group ride. We'll do an intentional, heart-rate based polarized training workout... 80% at Zone 2 endurance pace (70% max HR) and 20% at your Zone 4 high intensity pace (90% max HR). At My Zone 2/Endurance pace I'll roll around 16mph on flat/windless tarmac. Your Zone 4 pace is up to you and your ticker. Designated high intensity stretches will be sustained efforts around 3 mins in duration over 1-1.5 miles of open road.
Instead of the staccato ride, stop, ride...we'll ride for an uninterrupted 2.25 hours STRAIGHT (32mi) before we break at the end to solve world peace over coffee or whatever at the Starbucks in downtown Wheaton. BRING enough fuel and H2o to sustain you for that duration. Post break, we'll roll 2+ mi back to the start at a slow recovery pace.
If your worried about your impressive Strava avg speed...this ride is not your huckleberry. The intent is to build your base aerobic health/fitness while also pushing your high intensity heart rate capability. Of course, hanging with your buds and solving world peace is also a lot of fun.
Road bike with 15-19+ mph fitness required. Come join us...! NO drop ride.
