Nice easy bike and brew ride on the paved Fox River Trail. If you are a little slower, no problem we will ride the pace of the slowest rider. There is lovely scenery along the way. Midway stop is at Pollyanna Brewery for a fine craft beer and some general innocuous debauchery. Great River views along the Fox River on the way. Between Batavia and the North Aurora Dam, the Fox River Trail runs along both sides of the river, with the east bank section running through the very beautiful Red Oak and Glenwood Park Forest Preserves. Also in Aurora, the trail runs along both sides of the river for about a mile, between East Illinois Street and East New York Street. The South and mid sections of the Fox River Trail are beautiful with lovely water views including tons of twists and turns and a good amount of birds singing. As always on these Bike and Brew rides, the first beer for riders is on Pussanee and me. Slower riders and electric bikes most welcome. Weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 66 and north winds 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Kindly register due to remote start. Please park in the lot just west of The Tap House Grill. This is my route: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/95284893

Along with EBC members, members of the Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club, (FVB&SC) and members of the Quad Cities Bike Club have been invited to join the trip. Also members of Michigan Recumbent Trikes have been invited to join the tour. Those who register and indicate they plan to take the trip will receive an email from the hotel; final reservations can then be made. More information about the hotel is available at their website: rootriverinn.com. The Root River State Trail is a paved multiuse trail that was developed from an abandoned railroad line. The trail is 42 miles long and runs between the Minnesota towns of Fountain and Houston. A branch known as the Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail links to the Root River trail, near its western terminus. To learn more, visit the trail website: Root River Trail. Riders who take the trip can follow four basic routes, ranging from 22 to 46 miles. Those who register will be sent information on restaurants and attractions in the area. May is an underappreciated month on the Root River Trail, but one we think has ideal temps, low bike traffic and beautiful signs of spring. Any member of the group can follow this link to choose a room from the block and reserve it with their own information. Cancellations with a full refund are available up until 2 weeks before the stay (4/24/2024). Between 2 weeks and 1 week, 1 night is charged. The last week before, the whole stay is nonrefundable. *** I was asked to support the club meeting this week since it is in need of a quorum of 30 members. We will have time for a short ride to and fro. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46548347 *** This is a highly social, evening ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015. Always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-) We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter, as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles; and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions. Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a tight pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to curtiously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness. This ride is often best suited for mountain or fat-tire bikes when riding our crushed limestone routes, but also, quite often the weather and trail conditions make this event viable for most any type of bike. No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. Having said that, please don‘t show up if your bike is not ready or you are not in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat bike or mountain bike requires yet additional effort. Our routes typically vary from one week to the next. Look for route information on our e-mail list server each week before the ride. Let‘s rock!
