Maximize your winter socialization by joining fellow riders for morning coffee and/or a trail ride each Wednesday morning. We begin with coffee and conversation at the Villa Perk from 7 to 8 AM. Then those who want to participate in a winter trail ride will leave from the VP Depot at 8:15 for a ride to downtown Wheaton and back for 15 miles. Very short break at the Starbucks in Wheaton for the bathroom and perhaps a quick mid-ride snack. We will be back by 10:30 at the latest for those who need to get on with their day. Make sure you bring a bike suitable for the conditions of the day which may involve riding in snow or wet conditions. Fat tire bikes are recommended. The Villa Perk is directly across Villa Avenue from the VP Depot. Those arriving early for the ride are welcome to drop into the coffee shop to sign the ride sheet. The primary goal is to meet in person during the long winter season. All EBC members are welcome to share in coffee even if they have no plans to ride.

This is a highly social, evening ride that has been a Spring, Summer and Fall tradition since August, 2015. Always rolling at the speed-of-fun. :-) We ride as a team and enthusiastically encourage communication, conversation and laughter, as long as riders prescribe to safe practices such as: communicating about obstacles; and maintaining gaps that are appropriate for the speed, terrain and weather conditions. Your bike must have headlights and tail lights. Avoid using retina-burning, overly-bright and strobing lights since we ride trails as a tight pack and are usually separated from car and truck traffic. We try to curtiously douse headlights when passing pedestrians and fellow riders as we ride into growing darkness. This ride is often best suited for mountain or fat-tire bikes when riding our crushed limestone routes, but also, quite often the weather and trail conditions make this event viable for most any type of bike. No rider will ever be left behind. We have several bona fide EBC Ride Leaders attending this ride for extra safety. Having said that, please don‘t show up if your bike is not ready or you are not in athletic condition for this distance and pace. Note that 10-12 mph on a trail may take the same effort as 13-16 mph on a road; ...and riding a heavy, fat bike or mountain bike requires yet additional effort. Our routes typically vary from one week to the next. Look for route information on our e-mail list server each week before the ride. Let‘s rock!

The Driftless 100 is a hilly and challenging gravel race through Clayton County, Iowa that features beautiful landscape in one of Iowa‘s best kept secrets. Distance options include: 100, 60, 32, 30 miles and 8 miles with the following categories: single speed, fat bike and e-bike. ABOUT THE EVENT: The race is designed to showcase the Driftless region of the state and push even the most savvy gravel rider to their limit physically and mentally. Over 90% of the race is on limestone gravel with about 5% on pavement and 5% on level b/c roads. It is not designed to be a mud fest but this is Iowa in April so it could be sloppy. If you want a carrot, a Driftless branding Iron is awarded to any rider who finishes the 100 mile course in under 8 hours. If you finish in under 7 hours, you get to brand the wall of pain and receive the 7 hour brand. You do have to follow the official course and receive aid only at the aid stations to earn this award. Aid will be provided every 20-25 miles of the race. Navigation is required, there will only be signage for the family route. All profits of the race will go towards the local EMT units in Elkader, Volga and Garber. All proceeds go towards the improvement of equipment and supplies of local Emergency crews. This is a rain or shine event. If there is an imminent severe weather threat we will delay the start of the race for safety but otherwise we will race in the rain. Courses will be altered if there is moisture on course to avoid mud roads. Details + registration here: https://www.driftlessgravel.com Registration capped at 500, 100 limit for 100 mile category. Carpool and accommodation share options available, if interested. Please contact me to discuss.

The Cheesehead Roubaix is coming back for its 13th year this April! Originally advertised to me as "One of the most miserable races" there is, the weather doesn‘t seem to disappoint on that promise. This is a 100km, or ~63 mile bike race, that has roughly 10 miles of chunky gravel throughout the route. While road and fat tire bikes can handle these roads, a gravel setup is optimal. Make sure to bring appropriate clothing, as poor weather (usually) does not cancel this race, and if it ends up anything like last year, you can expect to be pedaling through 40 degree sleet/rain. This race is free to enter, but they do take donations or merchandise purchases to help support the ride. There is one provided rest stop ~40 miles in, but the rest of the ride is self supported. I will be at the starting location about 30 minutes early to check in EBC members. Most riders, including myself, will be riding at a 15-16mph average, but last year there were riders averaging between 12-19mph average. While poor weather does not (usually) cancel this ride, if the travel conditions are poor enough, I will cancel this as an EBC event. The website is currently down, as it is being updated for the 2024 version, but once it is back up you can access the route and more details here: https://sites.google.com/site/cheeseheadroubaix/ While check in is not required, it would be great to know if you plan on making your way up. Please email me at ctmay@protonmail.com if you‘re interested! Details about this ride are subject to change as more information comes out in the following month.

The trail is 42 miles long and runs between the Minnesota towns of Fountain and Houston. A branch known as the Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail links to the Root River trail, near its western terminus. To learn more, visit the trail website: Root River Trail. Riders who take the trip can follow four basic routes, ranging from 22 to 46 miles. Those who register will be sent information on restaurants and attractions in the area. May is an underappreciated month on the Root River Trail, but one we think has ideal temps, low bike traffic and beautiful signs of spring. Any member of the group can follow this link to choose a room from the block and reserve it with their own information. Cancellations with a full refund are available up until 2 weeks before the stay (4/24/2024). Between 2 weeks and 1 week, 1 night is charged. The last week before, the whole stay is nonrefundable. Depending on the size of your group, you may want to consider renting The Back Room @ Paddle On Coffee if you want to do an indoor group gathering. We also offer a Family Feud game experience if you want to have some fun together. Bicycling Events Created by: Petra Hofmann

Let‘s rock!

EBC Club Mountain Bike Trip to Bentonville, AR, where your next big cycling adventure awaits for you right off the downtown square. Considered a premier destination for mountain bikers worldwide, you will find a network of more than 140 miles of trails in the area, including 40 plus miles of hard surface and over 100 miles of single-track in or connected to the city. In Bentonville, AR, there‘s a trail for every rider, from riders enjoying nature to the most adventurous of riders wanting to test their skills. We will be staying at the Hilton Garden in Bentonville. This is a bike friendly hotel with bike storage (Lockers and Garage), a bike wash, trail maps etc. Please try to stay at the Club Hotel as we will have breakfast planning meetings to lay out the plan for the day and this will also make possible carpooling to remote starts easier. Intermediate mountain bike skills required. If you have ridden the intermediate rides at Palos, Kettle or Brown County you should be ok. All rides will start at The Hilton Garden which is right on the trail so most days we can ride right from the hotel but we will carpool and Caravan to remote Trail heads as needed. The Hilton Garden is situated on the Razorback Greenway which connects several single-track areas. Nowhere else can you find an extensive network of nearly 70 miles of trails running throughout a city, seamlessly connected to several hundred miles award-winning single track and paved systems across the bluffs and hollers of Northwest Arkansas. There is too much to ride of course but we plan to start with Slaughter Pen and make our way out to Blowing Springs, The Back 40 over to Little Sugar and then Coler during the 4 days. Hobbs State Park will be a day trip. Pussanee and I will be riding the Easy (Green) and Intermediate (Blue) sections of each trail only and will not be riding advanced sections. We have never been here so we will exploring and I will not know the trails like I do at Palos, so come and explore with

Looking for a new adventure this year in the summer? How about a ride across Georgia? Big BRAG (https://brag.org/brag) is SAT June 1 to SAT June 8. For those driving it would be a leave on FRI May 31st arriving at the start by 2PM on Sat June 1st. After rolling into camp at the end of the adventure Sat June 8th I will hit the road and roll into the Chicago suburbs NLT Sunday June 8th at noon. This is a smaller version of Ragbrai but cycling across the friendly and somewhat hillier northern parts of Georgia. The starting point is to be announced January 1st. On Big BRAG, cyclists will average about 55-70 miles per day for a week with a day off in the middle. It sounds like a lot, but we offer SAG and provide well-stocked rest stops every 12 - 18 miles with your favorite snacks and drinks, fun activities, and great views! BRAG routes take bike riders through some of the most friendly and welcoming towns and feature some of the best food Georgia has to offer. A roving bar, shower facilities and charging stations are available. When you pull into camp after your ride, you‘ll have access to the BRAG Bar where you can grab your favorite drink. Each day after the ride there are activities like bike trivia, one-legged bike races, educational classes, yoga, massages, etc. Every night features tomfoolery in the towns where we stay, like concerts, DJs, and festivals. There is some hotel availability, some camping availability as well as “turn down service” for camping. Bicycles can be brought if driving, brought on the airplane or shipped to a local cycle shop and back. Food is available in the small towns as well as food trucks at the base camp. Registration is here: https://brag.org/brag/register/ Please contact me offline if interested in going. bwetman@gmail.com 847-767-5745

Nice and easy trail ride to Duke’s Blues-N-BBQ Blues Festival in Carpenters Park. We will plan to spend about 2.5 hours at the festival watching the great blues bands, eating the fabulous food and enjoying fine craft beer. Riders will be welcome to stay longer or shorter as it is a straight shot down the Fox River Trail back to the car. This will be one the Largest Blues Festivals of 2024. They will have several southern food vendors, many musicians, Beer Tents and much more. There will be Sweet Tea Vodka, Adult Lemonade, Seltzers, Various IPA’s plus a coffee bar and wine bar, Craft beer will be from Black and Gray Brewery which is a favorite of ours. The North section of the Fox River Trail is really beautiful with scenic water views and nice forested landscapes. Trail is 99% paved so any bike is fine, we will be on our road Tandem. We will be back by 5:00pm, unless we‘re not. Slower riders and e-bikes are most welcome. Please note that there are several significant hills. Please kindly register as it is a remote start. In addition to the trail ride we have a 29, 46 and 62 mile road ride for the more experienced rider. The unique feature of Everybody Rides is our routes allow you to add on more miles if you would like while riding. All you have to do is do an extra "loop" or two depending on how many miles you would like to ride! As a reminder, Everybody Rides is a fundraiser for Project Mobility. Project Mobility is a local nonprofit that provides the freedom of mobility to children, adults and wounded soldiers with disabilities through adaptive cycling. Riding a bike may sound like such a simple activity but to those with mobility challenges (along with the hefty price tag of an adaptive bike) it makes it nearly impossible for them to enjoy the freedom of mobility without our help. Adaptive bikes provide life changing mobility, strength, self-esteem and the ultimate freedom for children, adults and veterans with disabilities. Cycling restores the possibilities to those who are often told by society that their life is about limitations. Please join us on Sunday, June 9th to witness firsthand what we are all about at Project Mobility. Post ride we will have our Party in the Park with our Adaptive Bike Giveaway in addition to unlimited food, beer garden, live music, raffles and so much more!
